****ATTENTION HARLETON SUBSTATION MEMBERS.****
We would like to inform you of a scheduled power outage for Saturday morning, January 18, 2025, as we perform essential maintenance on our substation. The outage will start at 5:00 AM and last about an hour.
We appreciate your understanding and patience as we work to improve our service.
🚨 ATTENTION URECC MEMBERS 🚨
A blast of Arctic air is expected to move into our service area early next week, bringing a potential mix of winter weather. We encourage all members to begin preparing their homes now to ensure safety and comfort during this cold snap.
Here are some helpful tips:
❄️ Insulate exterior pipes to prevent freezing
❄️ Seal any cracks around windows and doors to keep the warmth in
❄️ Let faucets drip slightly to help prevent pipes from freezing
❄️ Ensure your heating system is working properly and ready for the cold
❄️ Make alternate arrangements for outdoor pets to keep them safe and warm
❄️Have a backup plan in place for any medical equipment you rely on
Stay safe and warm!
Restoration After an Outage
Steps taken in the restoration process.
-
TRANSMISSION LINES CHECKED
Transmission towers and lines supply power to one or more transmission substations. These lines seldom fail, but they can be damaged by a hurricane or tornado. Tens of thousands of people could be served by one high-voltage transmission line, so if there is damage here it gets attention first.
-
LOCAL DISTRIBUTION SUBSTATIONS CHECKED
A cooperative may have several local distribution substations, each serving thousands of consumers. When a major outage occurs, the local distribution substations are checked first. A problem here could be caused by failure in the transmission system supplying the substation. If the problem can be corrected at the substation level, power may be restored to a large number of people.
-
MAIN DISTRIBUTION SUPPLY LINES CHECKED
Main distribution supply lines are checked next if the problem cannot be isolated at the substation. These supply lines carry electricity away from the substation to a group of consumers, such as a town or housing development. When power is restored at this stage, all consumers served by this supply line could see the lights come on, as long as there is no problem farther down the line.
-
TAP LINES CHECKED
The final supply lines, called tap lines, carry power to the utility poles or underground transformers outside houses or other buildings. Line crews fix the remaining outages based on restoring service to the greatest number of consumers.
-
SERVICE LINES CHECKED Sometimes, damage will occur on the service line between your house and the transformer on the nearby pole. This can explain why you have no power when your neighbor does. Your cooperative needs to know you have an outage here, so a service crew can repair it.
